Yesterday, our school community laid a precious student to rest. Although I understand death is a part of life; going to a seventeen year old's funeral was not something I thought would be a part of my job. Even though it was a very sad day, we all walked away from her funeral knowing that she made a difference in the world while she was here. She was selfless, independent, and thoughtful (when as you know, most seventeen year olds are pretty much all about themselves). She baked cakes for every one of her neighbors on their birthdays. She mowed the neighbor's lawn when their back went out. She walked to her job so she could have her own money. She lived life to the fullest in her seventeen years and hopefully will be an example for her peers for years to come. How about you? How do you deal with a death of a student? Any advice?
